World Bartender day
February 24th
At the heart of every great night is a doting bartender. So it’s only right that we show our appreciation for one of the oldest professions in the world.
Pioneering bartender, Jerry Thomas brought a new profession to the hospitality industry with his revolutionary bartending bible, “How to mix drinks or The Bartenders Guide”. Often the people behind the bars’ vision and expertise frame drinks trends and styles for decades. An occupation that is certainly more than just serving drinks; cocktails and mixed beverages have the potential to belong to cultural moments, becoming iconic symbols in time.
Martinis framed the 1950s, Harvey Wallbangers in the 70s, and Cosmopolitans dominated the naughties. But more often than not it is just the drink that remains celebrated and not the creator, the humble bartender.
So, this World Bartender Day we’d like to raise awareness for the brains behind the beverage. It is bartenders that bring our drinks to life, and are frequently our very first cheerleaders. Bringing our spirits to the mainstream, and championing them in their very own creations.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank these bartenders by shining a spotlight on their wonderful creations. Honouring their efforts to create space for small businesses such as Gattertop Drinks on the bar.
Here are some delicious cocktails that you should all try, and obviously, the brilliant bartenders behind them…

Creator: Giovanni Spezziga
Cocktail: Divine Temptation
Venue: The Coral Room, London
The orchard-inspired “Divine Temptation” champions the fragrant flavours of Botanic No7 coupled with “granny’s garden tea”, jalapeño oil, and nettle cordial, creating something one might consider art.

Creator: Liam Devy
Cocktail: Odesa Spring Punch
Venue: Hawksmoor, All venues
This delicious cocktail is Head Bartender Liam Devy’s reimagining of the iconic 90s classic the Russian Spring Punch originally coined by the late great, Dick Bradsell in the 1980s. This sensational punch cocktail takes our award-winning Damson No12 in a heavenly mix of vodka, lemon, and blackcurrant. Decadently topped with champagne.

Creator: Ella Mccabe
Cocktail: The Damn Good Negroni
Venue: Carousel, London
The perfect Negroni cocktail is all about balance and Restaurant Manager, Ella McCabe has achieved just that with her Negroni cocktail on Carousels’ classic cocktail menu. Using Damson No12 as a slightly sweeter alternative to Campari stirred together with The Botanist Gin, Quinta do Infantado White Port, and Cocchi Americano Ella’s Negroni is exactly what it says in the title, damn good!

To all these bartenders we thank you for bringing our vodka to the forefront of the cocktail revival and celebrating the natural flavours of the English countryside in your drinks.
